WEBSEDGE PRODUCES DOCUMENTARY ON GATES AWARD WINNER

The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine has won the 2009 Gates Award for Global Health. WebsEdge, producer of Global Health TV, was commissioned by the Global Health Council to produce a short documentary to mark the award. Shot in Tanzania and London the documentary looks at the history of the school, started more than a century ago in London's docklands, as well as the vital research work it does around the world. Tanzania was chosen as one example of research and education capacity-building the school undertakes. Working in the country since the advent of AIDS in the 80s the school now offers post-graduate degrees by distance learning, which give students qualifications they need without having to travel abroad.

The documentary will screen at the Global Health Council's annual conference in Washington DC, where Prof. Sir Andrew Haines, Director of the London School, will accept the award. The Gates Award for Global Health was established by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in 2000. The annual award offers one million dollars to an organisation that has improved the lives of people in developing countries.
